Heb 5:13-14 "13Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."

Recently, I've been getting back into my exercise regime. Have been off it since I was away in the US, not that I really was on it before I left anyway..

Thinking back, I realized that I was the fittest back in JC. I would hit the gym every other day, biking and doing weights and situps and everything. Man, I was strong at that time. And the adrenalin that pumped in my veins from the workout always made me going back for more, no matter how tired.

Reading the verses above, we learn that we can only become spiritually mature by exercising the truths of God, by living out His teachings and making conscious decisions to honour Him on a daily basis.

Exercising is a difficult thing which requires discipline and commitment, to keep going even when our weak bodies tell us to give up. It is the same with our faith. Many of us get tired, disillusioned and lose out focus easily while walking down the path of life. And the devil always tries to deceive us, encouraging us to stop and give up, to become a couch potato in our faith, to basically be a soccer fan (one who sits in front of the TV, watching others play the game instead of playing the game themselves.)

The good thing is that we need not exercise on our own. As Priscilla mentioned in her sharing during the conference, God has given us a spirit of self-discipline, He has provided us the stamina to pull through. And the more we exercise it, the more we get to see and experience His goodness, the more we want to continue on.

When exercising, i find it hardest at the start when my muscles are aching and my body hasnt found a rhythm. The only thing that keep me going is the knowledge that this is ultimately good for me physically, and mentally. After I hit the halfway point, things start getting better. I have found my rhythm and my muscles are all warmed up and ready to go.

The same applies for exercising spiritually. It is the toughest when we first start, when we do quiet time, when we work on our prayer life. But instead of thinking about how our spiritual muscles ache, we should focus on the fact that this molds us and changes us to become increasingly Christ-like. And there will come a point when we find the rhythm of working with the Holy Spirit.

Having been a child of God for many years, I should stop being a baby, demanding drink milk, nibbling on baby biscuits. It is time for me to have solid food, exercising my faith in the Lord and allow myself to be trained to distinguish good from evil.

Lord, remind me to train up and be a warrior for you. Cause me to be focused on You and to be able to take solid food from You. I want to be a runner on your team! In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Do you want to start exercising??

+ AMEN
