investments

"There are many things we can do for God but what is the one thing God wants us to do for Him??"

Pst Julie asked us that question during the Gateway Cities Youth Conference. Isn't my spiritual great-grandma something.. :)

That statement she made got me thinking about what it is I am doing with my time, with my life. As a young person in this time and age, the world is telling me to invest in my studies, my career, my physical appearance, in the material things. So many of us young people are doing just that but how many truly pause to think about what kind of investments we are making?

Matt 6:19-21
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

As in the world of buying and selling shares, each of us have limited resources (yes I know, econs econs..) This is in the form of our time, the 24 hours that we have each day and our energy. So what are we spending our time and energy on? Is it on something that "moths and rust destroy" and that "thieves can break in and steal"??

We've become a people who spend all our lives investing in certain things only to come out of it gaining nothing. I believe that this is because we do not take the time to think and reflect. We've stopped asking ourselves why we do things. We just simply follow what the majority does. Where has that taken us?

Verse 20 says, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." What have I been doing with my time? Am I working at storing up earthly possessions or heavenly riches? Is my heart safely within the palms of my Lord or is it caught up in trying to become a financial controller by the time I'm in my 30s?? I desire to live out God’s purpose of creating me, which is to worship Him in all I do.

"Lord, I commit my heart into your hands once again and ask that God, You’ll align it with Yours. Let my desire be to serve You and to work for the eternal. I want to store up treasures in heaven. Amen!"
